Longer Rides

Rapha Handbook 02 – Longer Rides
by Jo Burt

Rapha Handbooks are a series of books designed to help cyclists find their way into cycling. Informative, inclusive and specifically written to demystify the world of cycling, all the Rapha Handbooks are individually illustrated to help reinforce and add some fun to the real world advice from many respected and experienced contributors, writers and cyclists.

Maybe you’ve been riding your bike for a while. You know ‘what’s what’ and are happy to be out for a good few hours. But what might it be like to ride a little bit further? And then a little bit further still? You’ve watched the Tour de France and daydreamed about riding over those mountains. You’ve seen people riding their bikes across a whole country or even around the entire globe and you weren’t sure if they were just mad or inspirational.

Cycling illustrator and writer Jo Burt will gently hold your hand as you venture out on longer rides, he’s made the mistakes so you don’t have to. Say you want to tackle your first century, do a group ride, cross a mountain range or traverse a continent, this book will point you in the right direction, which is all the way over there. Don’t be afraid, just bring some money for snacks.

The illustrations and the cover (partially hidden under an orange cover wrap) are more than worth the price of admission alone… Although I’ve ridden bicycles for more years than I can truly remember, there was plenty in here to keep me occupied and entertained. And Jo’s wonderful pictures. An entire long-distance library in one book

About the author

Jo Burt is most famous for drawing the exploits of Mint Sauce, a mountain biking sheep appearing in Mountain Biking UK magazine for over 30 years. Jo has also worked for magazines and websites, writing cycling travel stories and tales of derring-do, or reviewing bicycle parts with an overly pernickety eye for road.cc. Riding and racing road, cyclo-cross and mountain bikes has meant that he hasn’t got bored with cycling but has only ever managed to be merely competent at any one of them. Jo has a preference for longer rides that end up going over quite a few mountains, especially if one of them has an espresso and Fanta stop at the top. Would like to be known as a good wheel to follow.
